The pig has always formed part
of the culture of our country. But from the products
created from it, Iberian ham is probably the most
highly appreciated, for both its nutritional and gastronomic
qualities.
According to the latest studies in the field of nutrition
and diets by food experts, Iberian ham is one of the
most exquisite and nutritious food products available,
as it is rich in proteins, which are essential to
maintain our organism in a healthy state. It also
provides vitamins B1 and B6, which are beneficial
for the nervous system and the correct functioning
of the brain.
Iberian ham is also rich in fats and minerals such
as copper (essential for the bones and cartilage),
iron and phosphorous. And what's more, it is highly
useful in slimming diets, as every 100 g contains
only 185 calories.
Almost half of the fat (48,2%) contained in acorn-fed
Iberian ham has the characteristics of oleic acid,
the most beneficial type for counteracting the effects
of cardiovascular diseases. For this reason it can
be said that "Iberian ham is like an olive tree
with legs".
